I'm flying out across the world again today, this is the third time now, and yes it is to the same location. And this time I'll be going for almost 2 months. So putting the pieces together for those who don't keep up with my news regularly: - I am likely going to a location outside Asia (flying 1/2 way around the world)
- It must be a big production to keep flying me about
- 2 months away would usually indicate at least a reasonable role
Well now what could it be ? Press release and my announcement coming soon.

True Legend, the Chinese Wuxia movie directed by action choreography legend Yuen Woo Ping, that had Asian cinema release in Feb 2010 finally is coming out in the West. And much to my pleasure it will be cinema release, this is brilliant for me. First I thought it had taken so long that it was going to be a straight to DVD release, secondly the timing is exceptionally good, thirdly getting my face on screen for a significant amount of time beating the life out of several Chinese TV/movie stars isn't a bad thing. This all makes the credit much more valuable as more people will know it if it gets the cinema release over just Martial Arts fans knowing it (ie very few people in Hollywood studios). And the timing? Let me tell you why this is exceptional for me.... |

What again? Yep, and to the same location. That can only mean one thing... well it could mean many things but for a tight wad like me it could only mean one thing.... WORK! And I can tell you right now that the work is not washing dishes. Unfortunately that is all I can say as I have signed a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and you will have to wait until official notification from 'them' to know what I am up to. Suffice it to say that for me personally it is a major honour and a childhood dream come true, CHILDHOOD dream not teenage dream - minds out of the gutter please. Now i just have a root canal to be done immediately before I jump on the plane. |

There is nothing new that I can report, maybe in the next week or two I might have something more interesting. But you know me, even with "nothing new" I still have a ton of stuff to write about and several thousand strongly held opinions to expound upon, and as you know my life is rarely ever boring or mundane. Actually my life is frequently boring but I don't write about that... much... |

Yep, I'm flying out for a business meeting for a few days - where to? Ahhh... that I cannot say, it's a secret and I have been told to keep it as such. It's a lot different working in the big world rather than at your local language studios to whom the English language markets are usually a secondary after production thought.
IF things work out the way I would like then this is going to mean a big change to my life. I think I would be safe to say that for my goals this would be a.... no I'll save it for later. Cheers :) |

Thailand
and Cambodian armies are shooting it out again at the border while
Bangkok hosts political rallies that have split Thailand. Fun. Hopefully Thailand's internal troubles don't flare up while the the opposing armies fight it out. Muslim insurgents killed 4 in the south of Thailand at the border with Malaysia too. Bangkok Post Story - Good article
The Nation Story Meanwhile the Thai Police are having a War On Crime, mainly targeting drugs usage across Thailand, aiming for a 20% decrease in crime in the next 3 months.
Besides all that things are running pretty much standard here in Thailand. Honestly living here makes you feel alive, nothing like any of this ever happens back 'home'. But you know what? The way the Thai people deal with all this is amazing, the media are calm, things will be fine. OK, looks like emergency top level negotiations have secured a cease fire at about 7.30pm, so that was approximately 4.5 hrs of fighting, rockets, artillery barrages and mortar fire between the two armies. Pretty intense for the local residents I guess, well considering their school was blown up, huts set on fire and at least on confirmed artillery death "well inside" the Thai border.
Oh yes, I almost forgot - HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! And..... they are at it again. |

Seriously I have had conversations with quiet a few people like this, a couple even had business cards made up with all their 'professions' listed on it. They thought they were covering all the bases and it would maximise their chances for work, little did they know that in fact no-one in their right mind would ever hire them for anything.... ever.... Not even as the low paid unskilled labourer of the film world - the Extra .... |

Buster Reeves, one of the world's top stuntmen, was interviewed in HBO's behind the scenes series "The Artisans" which you can watch later in this article after I have my say. I worked with Buster Reeves closely for the fight with Rory McCann in the upcoming TV series (april 2011) from HBO called "Game of Thrones". Buster is the fight coordinator which means he is responsible for dreaming up the unique fight sequences, taking into account a ton of details which he explains in this interview. Better yet for me, Buster drops a rather nice compliment about my abilities... |

Seriously has Conan gone off the deep end? Has the stress of too many anxious nights waiting for the "big one" finally gone to his head? No, and here is a fundamental mistake that I see many young aspiring actors making. In fact in the last week 3 different people have asked my advice on acting and I have pretty much given the same sermon I am about to give here. Being a good actor has little to do with being good at the art of acting, though the two are not mutually exclusive. *NOTE: This rant is relevant to your occupation too....

Just recently a good friend suggested that I put a deadline on my acting career, a cut off date where if I had not made it by then that I should give it up and go back to Australia to build my future the traditional way of swapping hours for money in what some people call a real job. Funnily enough a mutual friend of both of us called last month and said to me, when I was a feeling down, "Look how far you have come in the last 5 years - Imagine where you will be in 5 years time." Or should I follow some previous advice and get the heck out of the third world? All very good sets of advice so which do I take? Which would you take? That depends upon where you would believe your career is at. Here's what I am doing.... |

Again while many 'actors' sit around waiting for their agent to call them for a casting I have been at it myself, trying to create my own work. Scouring the web for new possibilities , making my own luck . This is a lot easier than you might think... well make that it is a lot easier than you think once you have built yourself into a definite niche product with the required skill sets and enough experience to be taken seriously when you make your pitch. Oh yes, did I mention that you have to learn to sell yourself ? |

TWO MILLION unique visits to this site. Yes, two million seperate visits, not page refreshes, not 'hits' no bull stats but a real 2 million people have 'passed through the gates' so to speak as measured by Google Analytics.
Add in the 756,000 views of my Youtube and Yahoo video channels and another 350,000 from my other assorted websites and that is over 3 million visits to my sites.
Regardless of what anyone says I consider that a major coup in self promotion from a relatively unknown actor and it has been worth it and it is most definitely helping my career and taking me places.... |

Well it has rolled around again - all christians go out now and in a shopping frenzy reminiscent of berserker Vikings discovering unprotected church gold on the shores of England, celebrate by going out to the Xmas sales with mobs of other mind controlled shopping zombies and putting yourself in credit card debt to 'prove' you love your family.... because that is what the TV tells you to do. Here is a different take on Christmas from Rob Sheridan: Awesome. Enjoy your friends and the things that are important to your life. Stampedes and fist fights over "sale" items is a bloody ridiculous way to celebrate friends and family. I have been accused of being cynical - here is last Christmas , and the one before . Not really much to get excited about is it when you look at the reality. |

A BIG Audition? Yes.... but I can't tell you about it so I'll do what I usually do and talk about the process involved and my personal experiences. In this case I have had a big do not talk about this slapped down on me (probably everyone involved actually) so I won't even be leaving any clues. First up Dysentery. Lovely little thing it is, and an old friend. Problem is that this time I had something to do, actually something important to do, with a real deadline... |

HBO released a 10 minute "making of" The Game of Thrones (GoT) called Inside Game of Thrones, you can view the entire video over at the Winter Is Coming Fansite , or over here on Youtube. I feature very briefly in this.
Gregor "the Mountain" Clegane Is An Angry ManIn the "GoT: The Artisans" there is an interview with Tommy Dunne (click to watch) , the Weapons Master on GoT. Tommy specifical mentions me as an example of a sword being specially made for such a big character, it is also an interesting look at what actually needs to be done in regards to the weapons. There will be as steel sword for instance, an aluminium one, maybe a carbon one, and a CGI version all of the same weapon, often several copies to cover accidents. A lot more work and equipment to lug around than you'd think. Thirdly in GoT news there was the third teaser released recently too... again over at Winter is Coming or again over at Youtube . More screencaps and some interesting news inside.... |

Those of you who know me already know that I specialise in action movies, as a stunt actor - meaning I do as many of my own stunts as possible. This mainly concerns the fight scenes I am employed to do. Now having a fight on film is much different to street or ring fighting but fighting as a main character with an established background, past and personality adds even more complexity to the mix, both to the action sequence and the acting itself.... |

Besides the fact today's Youth are rebelling against their parents established values, same as youth of every generation, todays "Heroes" and "Role Models" are products of entrenched profit driven industries that portray the real world as a fantasy, high living, easy money without effort. These unrealistic expectations and non-sustainable role models are the real problems with todays youth. Let me explain... |

Well, almost, but not quite. In fact there are Ser Gregor Clegane Action Pewter Miniatures, but being pewter and about 32mm (1 & 1/ 5 inch) tall there isn't too much action either. Ser Gregor Clegane Fighting The Red Viper (Book 3) So OK, it's not Conan Stevens and it's not action and it's a miniature - but since when did truth get in the way of a good fantasy story? Why am I talking about these in the first place? This is the interesting bit George R.R. Martin, the author of the Game Of Throne book series that HBO has license personally wrote me an email today.... Oh yes, and a little about my horse riding training... |

I have now been in Belfast for 4 days, most of the time sitting in my hotel room, trying to work on my new book (yes I know I was supposed to finish it already, but there were some other issues that took priority ). The incredible life of an actor includes me going to the gym and then sitting in front of my laptop eating a can of baked beans and a tin of sardines ( combined 40g protein, 38g carbs and some good fish oils), or chicken sandwiches or instant noodles with a tin of tuna mixed in, or fruit and natural yoghurt, or oatmeal and milk, you get the picture - stuff you can eat without cooking. I'm in a nice hotel, I've got a daily food allowance, I'm getting paid - why the heck am I eating like a self supporting University student? And for more on meeting Jason Momoa and Rory McCann and Gregors armour read on...

I fly to Belfast, Ireland tonight to start work with HBO's new TV series Game Of Thrones as Ser Gregor Clegane. I have some armour fittings, sword training and horse riding lessons (it's been a long time since I rode last) to do before my filming starts. Better go and pack my bag, lucky I am rather experienced at International travel now and it'll take me about 30 minutes, then to go get all my paperwork in order and try to relax a little. |

Now signed! Ser Gregor Clegane, "The Mountain That Rides" - the character for the upcoming HBO TV series that I originally wrote about waayyyy back in March 2007 has now been cast. And it's me! I am to play Ser Gregor Clegane, "the baddest knight in a realm full of bad asses". This is big news for my career. Possibly BIG news :) Anyway I digress. This credit alone will validate my acting career in a major US TV series as Gregor Clegane is a major character. No walk on big angry bad guy role here. Thank God... and my preparations... and, mostly, the fans. The credit of working as Gregor Clegane with a big reputable company like HBO on a TV series that has such a promising production crew line up that it is as guaranteed as it is possible to get in becoming a hit TV show..... |

Right now Thailand is about 12 hours away from open civil war. This is not some retoric, there are armed troops fighting armed troops in hte streets of Bangkok right now and for the last 4 days.... again. The official Army has assassinated one of the 'Red Shirt' political leaders who was shot but snipers and hit by 2 bullets in the head in the middle of a crowd while conducting an interview with foreign mdeia correspondents. The idea is to 'cut the head off the snake', but I am concerned that they just made a martyr. Official figures for the dead are now at 35, I think the real figures are about 10 times that figure, the media is under tight control with Twitter, Facebook and Youtube giving a lot of 'on the ground' uncontrolled coverage. Government troops have set up a "Live Fire Zone" where they are firing real bullets at anyone they deem necessary to take out..... or anyone unlucky enough to put his head out a window, or even stand near a window...

A new fansite with the making of Bangkok Adrenaline and behind the scenes photos has come to my attention. Most of the photos and blog links are from my own photo pages and articles but not all. Better yet for Bangkok Adrenaline fans the site is laid out in an easy to find and read manner rather than strewn over several years of blog posts like this site's Bangkok Adrenaline posts. Go and have a read, it tells pretty much exactly how we went about making Bangkok Adrenaline . |
